The history of rugby is closely connected with the clubs, schools, hospitals, universities and sporting institutions that helped establish the game during the nineteenth century.

Our British Heritage rugby shirt collection celebrates that history through a selection of designs inspired by some of the earliest names associated with rugby. Our collection reflects this period through shirts carrying historic dates such as 1865, 1866, 1868, 1869, 1870, 1871, 1872, 1873, 1874, 1875 and 1876, alongside later examples from the 1880s.

Vintage Rugby Shirts with an Old-School Finish

While the inspiration comes from rugby history, these are designed to be worn today.

The Black&Blue1871 British heritage rugby shirt range is made with a heavyweight slub cotton which gives the shirt a hard wearing yet soft and comfortable finish.

This retro style ‘old school’ shirt combines vintage colour dyes with a distressed wash to produce a nicely worn-in look and feel.

Care instructions:

Wash / Care instructions for number patches 

Our number patches are individually embroidered on to the shirts, so to ensure they are stable during the process to keep puckering or stretching from occurring we have to use a backing fabric. This backing fabric is trimmed but left covering the patch (on the inside of the garment). As the backing fabric degrades in the washing machine we recommend that you let the backing degrade with washing and recommend that you do not rip it or cut it out as this can cause damage to the stitching.
